Policy for working on campus while at Open Limited status

This policy is effective May 22, 2020, until further notice.

Union College is committed to the health of all employees, students, and visitors. As part of this commitment, the college has increased the amount of cleaning in high traffic areas, added hand sanitation stations, and put policies in place to limit the spread of illness.

In order to keep everyone safe, the college expects anyone on campus to abide by the policy below.

Personnel allowed on campus

While closed to visitors, the Union College campus is open for all employees to work as needed. However, employees may choose to work from home if the job allows with permission from their work supervisor.

Student workers who live in Lincoln may come to campus to perform their jobs as deemed necessary by their work supervisors.

Students from outside Lincoln may apply to live in the residence hall and will be allowed to return to campus immediately if they have been hired for a campus job unless excluded from campus based on illness or possible exposure to COVID-19 criteria listed below. If students do not meet the criteria, they may be denied access to the residence hall or required to quarantine on campus for 14 days at the discretion of the Dean of Students.

Students will be allowed to visit campus by appointment only to fulfill academic or registration requirements as needed.

Do not come to campus if you are ill

All individuals working on the Union College campus must conduct a personal health check each day prior to arriving on campus or leaving their residence hall room for any of the following symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Body aches/muscle pain
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

If you have any of the above symptoms, do not go to work. Report your condition to your supervisor and notify the Campus Health nurse—then follow the recommendations of your primary health care provider. If you live on campus, the Campus Health nurse will provide instructions for quarantine procedures.

Other reasons not to come to campus

If you have traveled internationally or experienced a sustained exposure to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks, you will be required to quarantine for 14 days. Those living off campus will not be allowed to come to campus during that time. Those living on campus must follow quarantine procedures as specified by the Campus Health nurse.

Safety practices while on campus

Everyone on campus must regularly wash hands—either with soap and water or hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

All employees must maintain the appropriate six feet of social distancing from others as much as possible. No one should gather in groups of more than 10 on campus.

Everyone entering a college building should carry a mask to be used when social distancing is not practical or when the situation demands. Employees and students should be respectful of others and wear a mask when others in the area are wearing a mask or when asked to wear a mask.
