“Early in the morning…”         Mark 1:35

Jesus was busier than I am! He had a whole world to save; I only have a couple classes to prepare for and to help coordinate the work of Campus Ministries!! I can’t use that excuse for not spending quality time regularly with God.

My story today is about a late night work session for Jesus. “As the sun set and the Sabbath ended the people brought their sick and afflicted to Jesus.” He was staying at Peter’s home in Capernaum and they lined up outside the door; Jesus worked until late in the night.

And then comes my verse for today. “EARLY in the morning,” How early? “While it was still dark,” Jesus did four things:

  1. He got up- a conscious act so he had prayer time over pillow time
  2. He left the house- too much going on to give Him His quiet, private, personal space with the Father
  3. He went to a solitary place- alone time with God is scary but productive
  4. He prayed- talking and listening to the One He loved, more than sleep, society, and serving

There’s something about STARTING with Jesus. Ending the day with Him is also valuable as I reflect, but there’s something about STARTING with Him.

Have a great day discovering or rediscovering the blessings of starting with Jesus,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the day: “Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody's business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy.” Thomas Merton
