Live for Christ
“LIFE IS SHORT.” That phrase has been resounding in my soul for a while now as I have been looking for a clear purpose and focus on my life. As I earnestly pray for God’s guidance, this verse keeps coming to my mind: “And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure” (James 4:3). Focus on that last phrase, “You want only what will give your pleasure.” Today we don’t often give much thought to the world to come, because we are too busy focused on the cares, worries, and pursuits of this life.
It's all too easy to get caught up in the “go for your dreams,” and “do what makes you happy!” notions of our culture and build our focus around personal pursuits, indulgences, and comforts. The things we invest our time and energy into can seem incredibly important at the moment. But C.T. Studd says, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.”
God has been prompting me to turn my focus heavenward and remember that I am only here on this earth for a short season. This life is but a fleeting breath, and we are called to spend it well—for Christ’s glory and not our own gain. Social media will not last. Physical beauty will not last. Popularity will not last. Money will not last. These things that seek to claim so much of our time and attention now, will one day fade into nothingness! My hope and prayer for all of you are to build your life and focus on things that truly matter—the things that have eternal value! Because honestly, an eternally focused, Christ-centered life is the only kind of life worth living!
