“And now O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you?” Deuteronomy 10:12-13
This was a fun text to come up this morning in my quiet time with God. I have heard for years, and even sung for decades, the words of Micah 6:8. “He has shown you O man what is good, and what does the Lord ask of you?” Three things- but I’ll write about that another day!
Today I found a similar verse in Moses’ summary book of Deuteronomy. It starts out pretty much the same as Micah does, but with slightly different expectations. That in itself was a good ah-ha moment. There just might be more than one way to connect with God and there might even be different expectations that God has for different people at different times. The goal is not one thing or one way; as I saw this morning, the important thing seems to be to stay focused on Him SO THAT He can guide and direct me as He knows best.
Anyway, what does God through Moses suggest are some of His expectations? Here’s the rest of my verse for today:
And I LOVE the final phrase of the verse!! “It’s for your own good!”
God reminds me this morning that I should respect Him, follow Him, love Him, serve Him and obey Him. BECAUSE “It’s for my own good.” I want good in my life; God says it’s mine when… (see #1-5 above!)
Have a great day following “what’s for your own good,”
