Passivity
Good morning, Beautiful People!
God does not call us into a passive faith but an active one. Imagine how different the Chrisitan life would be if Jesus, the story's Hero, exhibited passivity. I praise God that Jesus is actively engaged in the minuscule details of our lives. Jesus, the Hero of the biblical narrative and mine, defeated death. There is no passivity in Christ's conquest over death. In light of what Christ has done, He says, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me" (John 14:1).
Passivity leads to a distrust in God's character, whereas faith plunges us into the heart of God, courageously, without reservations. A passive Christian is a double-minded person swayed from one direction to the next. The sway can be emotional, spiritual, or mental. A sedentary person does not fully grasp their identity in Christ. God has not done such wondrous work to redeem us for us to wallow in passivity. Instead, He calls us to have deep roots of faith that perpetuate His character of love. He calls us to have an active faith that resists the prowling devil. All through Scripture, God commands us to "stand firm!"
1. "Put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." Ephesians 6:11
2. "Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:58
3. "Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved." Philippians 4:1
The call is clear, friends, stand firm. Stand firm in what Jesus Christ has done on your behalf as the Hero of your story. Stand firm in His righteousness, stand firm in His peace, stand firm in His love, and stand firm in His Spirit. The Hero has already won the war, stand firm in that! Trust His character and share with others your strong faith.
Let go of passivity and take on active faith.
