“Have I not commanded you…”         Joshua 1:9

This is a pretty familiar text to many. After God explained the process of guaranteeing success (yesterday’s verse!) He again offers Him hope (as He did BEFORE His process of success (see 1:5). “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

This is a command, not a suggestion from God! He did NOT say, “Have I not suggested to you that you might consider….” No, it’s a command:

  1. Be strong
  2. Be courageous
  3. Don’t be afraid
  4. Don’t be dismayed

And you know why? “For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” In verse 5 He assured Joshua that He would “never leave him or forsake him,” and now He says, “I will be with you wherever you go.” That’s pretty good assurance from the God of the universe!

I have found that most of my wishy washiness; or my weakness, or my indecisiveness comes when I’m not sure what to do, or where to go, or how to prioritize. My verse for today assures me that when my commitment is to following God and using HIS direction as my direction, my confidence goes up, my courage to make the tough call increases, my fear level declines, and my confusion (or dismay) in life levels out. I have an anchor, a focus, a direction that helps chart my course. I highly recommend it!

Have a great day discovering the security of God’s direction in your life,

Pastor Rich
