“I write these things to you… that you might KNOW…” 1 John 5:11-13
And the last category that I found in dad’s texts was one of his favorite themes-- Absolute Assurance in Christ. “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you might KNOW that you have eternal life.” If I believe—I can know! That how sure John, and God, want me to be. I can’t earn it; I don’t deserve it; He gives it to me! And if God is God, and I believe He is, then I also believe what He says is true. I don’t understand why He would want to save me, but He does.
Nothing else in the world can give me that much assurance. I’ve had my fair share of days where I was trying to earn His salvation and I’ve had my fair share of days when I doubted my salvation. It was just too good to be true and “nothing in life is free” was what I grew up believing. Well, in life that’s pretty much true, but with heaven it’s as false as false can be.
The whole chapter is amazing:
“Everyone who believes is born of God”
“Our faith is the victory that overcomes the world.”
“Let me repeat that,” says John, “so it sinks in.”
“Who is it that overcomes the world? ONLY he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
“THIS is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life.”
And then dad’s verse for today.
Absolute assurance of salvation IN JESUS because I can have absolutely no other assurance that offers me so much. It’s a great deal for which I can only say, “Thank you.”
Have a great day in assurance, knowing your eternal life IS secure in HIM,
Pastor Rich
Quote for the day: "God, I lift up to You the areas of my life that are overwhelming and burdensome. I've not come to You to complain, but rather to seek Your help. Where I've tried to handle everything in my own strength instead of depending on You, I ask Your forgiveness. I pray You'll take each burden of my heart and enable me to rise above every challenging situation in my life." Stormie Omartian
PS Don’t forget- Focus, focus, focus; the world is in turmoil; God is not!
