“I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord…” Jeremiah 29:11-13
Dad’s next text in his “assurance” of God’s absolute love comes from the prophet Jeremiah. God’s love for me is demonstrated in so many ways, one of which is the assurance I can have that He knows what He’s doing and He has plans for me! Plans to “prosper me and not to harm me. Plans to give me hope and a future.” In this world that can often be confusing, and as I try and sort out my place both in this world and in His plans, I know He’s got my back, AND He has my front! I look back and I know I am forgiven and I often see how He has led. I look forward with that assurance of forgiveness and evidence of His leading, when I would allow Him to, and I have confidence that I can “prosper” and “have hope” for the future. Not prosper necessarily according to the secular definition, but prosper in what God knows is most important for my life in Him. If my resources also prosper then that’s a perk to be used for His glory. But if they don’t I still prosper in the peace that I have trusting the One who absolutely loves me.
I like the next verses as well! “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you.” A wise and loving Father is there listening to whatever His children are saying. But a wise and loving father does NOT always give me what I what. That’s the wisdom of an earthly father and a Heavenly Father! My desires are often short-sighted and self-centered. Fortunately, I had an absolutely loving father on this earth, and I have an absolutely loving Father in heaven who were and are wise enough to see a bigger picture than I often see.
And the next verse is my response opportunity. I can fight the father (that’s called rebellion!) or I can follow the Father (that’s called submission.) “You WILL seek Me and find Me. When you seek for Me with all your heart I WILL be found by you.” That’s the promise- I have the absolute love of the Father, who knows what He is doing, has plans for my success, and can be found by me if I wish.
Have a great day seeking that absolutely loving Father,
Pastor Rich
