“… for THIS is the will of God concerning you.”         1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Understanding the “will of God” in my life is sometimes quite evasive. I can blame God sometimes for what ends up being a catastrophe by claiming that I thought it was “God’s will.” I can remove all discussion if I’m insecure in a given decision by simply saying, “I believe this is God’s will.” The phrase gets misused and abused too often, in my humble opinion!

An interesting google search through the Bible for words and expressions that relate to “God’s will,” or the “will of God,” really opened my eyes to what HE says is His will, rather than me speculating on what I THINK God’s will is. My text for today is a good illustration. Three “attitudes” preface the concluding statement, “for THIS IS the will of God concerning you.”

  1. Rejoice ever more
  2. Pray without ceasing
  3. In everything give thanks

I don’t know everything about God’s will in my life, but I found it profoundly valuable to google search the verses that DO tell me what God’s will IS and at least start there. What if I just focused on “rejoicing… praying… and giving thanks?” That would be a good start and might just prove to be the spiritual discipline needed to discover more texts like this one and set the stage for a clearer understanding on God’s will in the rest of my life. Hey, it’s worth a try!

Have a great day discovering “God’s will concerning you,”
