“You are the aroma of Christ…”         2 Corinthians 2:15

I found 5 metaphors in the first part of Paul’s second letter to the people in Corinth describing Christ and me:

  1. “You are the aroma of Christ” 2:15
  2. “You are a letter from Christ”  3:3
  3. “You are His reflection”  3:18
  4. “You are jars of clay holding His treasure”  4:7
  5. “you are Christ’s ambassador” 5:20

Smell is one of the first senses that give me a “sense” of what’s close by. When I walk in the Ortner Center and our bakery is active, the smell of fresh baked bread hits my senses before the door hits my backside! Before I see it, I smell it. I wonder if when people get near me they “smell” that I am in the presence of God? What is their first impression?

Very few people seem to write letters anymore, except my mother, so I wonder if it would be safe to substitute “text” for letter? “You are a text from God.” So when the phone knocks what text are people receiving from me that indicates I’m with Christ? Or what text might they receive that indicates that I am not first with God?

And like the moon reflects the light of the sun, I want people to see me only as a reflector of Jesus.

I’m only a clay jar, but I’m of inestimable value because of the promise that Christ dwells in me. And that’s all I want to be- a simple container for Jesus to continue His work.

And, as an ambassador represents a nation, so I want to represent a kingdom—the kingdom of God, carrying its message accurately wherever I am.

So have a great day joining me in being a 5 part metaphor for our Master,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the Day:      “You can’t change the past but you can ruin a perfectly good present by worrying about the future.”
