“Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.”    1 Peter 5:7

The absolute love of the Father is demonstrated in this text from my dad’s list with the closing phrase, ‘He cares for you.” I often parallel this verse with one in the psalms. “Cast all your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” So I add to the fact that “He cares for me,” the fact that “He sustains me.” And that verse continues. “He will never let the righteous fall.”

So, He cares for me, He sustains me, and He won’t let me fall. Pretty good deal for just “casting all my cares on Him.”

Again, as I think I wrote about yesterday, the promises of God are according to His will and not mine. He promises to care for me, as He knows is best, not necessarily by my definition of what’s best. He promises to sustain me, as He knows is best, not necessarily by how I might define my minimal sustainable level of sustenance, which is offend more about “keeping up with the Jones” that “following the lamb wherever He goes.” And He will never let me fall, spiritually, AS I “cast my cares on Him.” I still might catch the blade of my skate on a crack in the ice and go down, or as has also happened, on my morning walk, I kick an uneven spot on the sidewalk and trip. That’s just life; you get up, brush yourself off and move on. He may let those things happen just because life happens, but as I continue to learn from Him and choose to follow Him, which includes “casting my cares and anxieties on Him,” then I have the absolute assurance that His love will be demonstrated in His commitment to care for me.

An added blessing, that I continue to discover on my journey with Jesus, is that the more I focus on my connection with Him, the more clearly I understand how and why He cares for me like He does; I grasp more confidently how He sustains me; and I experience less and less falling in my spiritual walk with Him. Focus, focus, focus. It’s worth it.

Have a great day casting your cares and anxieties on Him, learning that He IS faithful,

Pastor Rich
