“Teach me your ways O Lord…”         Psalm 86:11

I mentioned this verse the other day and it keeps coming back in my quiet time with God so I think I’ll write about it today. David asks for two things:

  1. To be taught God’s ways
  2. To have an undivided heart

With two reasons for making the request:

  1. “So I can walk in YOUR truth”
  2. “So I can honor YOUR name”

It still reminds me to be focused on what I ask for in prayer—Is it more about what I want or more about what God wants? David’s two requests were SO THAT he could focus more on His God. Here’s the whole verse, “Teach me your ways O Lord, so I can walk in your ways; give me an undivided heart so I can honor your name.”

What if the focus of my prayers, because it’s the desire of my heart, is to follow God so my life honors His name? What would my prayers look like? How different might they be?  “Lead me O God in Your ways and give me such a clear focus that the only things that really matter are that I am following Your truth and I am bringing honor to You.”

Have a great day focusing your prayers more and more on Him,

Pastor Rich

PS        uGather on Thursday @ 10:35am. AROUND THE CLOCKTOWER This week we’re making it up to Trina Cress who was scheduled to speak for uGather last spring before we knew of the COVID changes to life. Thanks Trina for still being willing to share your story with us this week. We’ll also be introducing the pastors from all the Adventist Churches in Lincoln so you can meet them and perhaps discover the wide variety of options available for you to worship each Sabbath morning.

PPS      From our International Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA):

I am reaching out because I have been working on a new program for college students interested in advocacy, sustainability, and humanitarian service. I plan to launch this program this fall, which will include campus organizations and ambassador opportunities. I am putting together an advisory board of students from our 12 NAD colleges and universities and seeking recommendations from Union College. The ideal student would be someone interested in advocacy, global development, sustainability, and humanitarian service. They could be any class standing and major (however, if you have a global development/global health/global studies/international relief. etc. programs, these students may be interested). I am really interested in finding passionate, creative, and accountable young people who want to serve as the “hands and feet” of Jesus. I hope the project will also lead to creative opportunities for students who wanted to be involved in local and overseas service opportunities, but are now on hold due to COVID.

Working on this will not only be a great service-learning opportunity, but it will also be an excellent opportunity to list on a resume or grad school application.

Let me know if you are interested.

PPPS    Please pray for Mario Herrera, the police officer who was shot in the line of duty yesterday here in Lincoln. I was with the family last night at the hospital as the took him back to surgery fighting for his life.
