Hurting People
“Hurting people hurt people and are easily hurt by them.” A few weeks ago, I was working on switching out old light fixtures for new ones. Once I had the old light fixture out, I had to cover up the white and black wires, the neutral and live wire. Now, any electrician will tell you, “Don’t let the black and white wire touch, or you’ll be in for a shock (no pun intended).” To avoid this, you have to cover up the wires with electrical nuts. There’s a life lesson there. Often, when we experience painful situations, we don’t “wrap things up,” that is to say, we don’t allow ourselves to heal.
When we don’t cover up the exposed wires in our hearts, everyone near and dear to us gets hurt. There is the good news; God knows the various wires in our lives that are exposed and ready to hurt those close to us. He calls us to surrender and healing. We need to start asking hard-hitting questions such as, “Who has hurt me, and have I allowed myself to heal and forgive?” I tell you the truth, my friends, healing, and forgiveness come from Jesus. Jesus is the one that covers the exposed wires and heals the brokenhearted. Jesus says to you and me this morning, “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 30:17).
Jesus has the healing that you are looking for. You’ve been exposed to pain and hurt for too long. Let the love of Jesus clothe you, heal you, and give you the grace to forgive those who have hurt you.
Healing is here. Let's jump into it.
