“No temptation can take you… for God is faithful.” 1 Corinthians 10:13
Here’s another assurance of absolute victory text for today (and every day!) from my dad’s list. Again I can fret over temptations or I can focus on God’s faithfulness. It’s my call. I can worry about the junk that surrounds me, or I can focus on the peace God offers me. I can panic or I can trust the God who says in my verse for today that He will always provide a way out. I can get fatigued over possibly falling into sin or I can know that He promised whatever it takes so I can stand. It’s all about my focus.
If I try not to think about a red house, guess what I just thought about (and so did you probably!)? If I try not to think about sinning, guess what? I think you know. My ultimate goal in life is not to just not sin, I’m shooting for something a lot better than just not doing bad. But if I focus on that, that’s probably about all I’ll get.
God’s promise is that HE IS FAITHFUL, so I don’t have to worry. The glory of God’s faithfulness is that no sin of mine has ever made Him unfaithful to me. Whatever comes my way He has already provided me the strength to overcome. That gives me so much freedom to focus on something so much more important that just not sinning- and that is seeing more clearly the face of Jesus. I don’t even have to focus on how good I can be (says the verse right before this one) because that will probably just bring pride and according to Ellen White that’s the worst sin there is! I don’t have to try and be better and I don’t have to try and not be worse to be loved and accepted by God. I just need to know where my strength comes from and where my focus in life needs to be. It’s not on who will be president tomorrow or when this crazy COVID thing will end. That’s all temporal and temporary. My focus must stay on Jesus because “He is faithful.”
Have a great and stress-free day trusting something more than an election or a cure,
Pastor Rich
Quote for the day: “All God’s giants have been weak men and women who have gotten hold of God’s faithfulness.”
