Beautiful People,
The yield sign is the most underutilized and ignored traffic sign. For whatever reason, yielding our right of way is difficult both in the streets and in our personal lives. To yield is to put another’s interest above our own. According to the Apostle Paul, “Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind), let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves]” (Philippians 2:3, AMPC). This call to “yield the right of way” is not an invitation to devalue our worth, no, its an invitation to actualize the love of God by focusing on the needs of others.
The radical truth of God’s adoption of us into His family is that our Heavenly Father takes care of our needs. This frees us up to put the needs of others above our own. In other words, true Christianity is the radical movement from self-centeredness to other-centeredness. To yield the right of way is an act of sacrificial divine love. Our ability to yield the right of way reflects our relationship with Christ. Paul calls us to have the same mindset that was in Christ. Christ’s mindset continuously puts the needs of others before His own. What a wonderous thought that the King of the Universe would set aside His own needs to meet the needs of people like you and me. Now, this mindset is impossible to create within our strength; however, all things are possible with God. In the Kingdom of God, His children yield the right of way as an act of love. When can live in that Kingdom and the strength of the King by simply asking, “Jesus, give me the strength to yield the right of way so I can see other’s needs.”
