Exceeding great and precious promises are given to us, SO THAT….”           2 Peter 1:4

If it’s important to God, it’s clear in His word. That’s my benchmark for understanding God’s word. My verse for today came to me yesterday while I was out walking. Here’s how I broke it down:

  1. God’s word is full of “exceeding great and precious promises.” The more of them I discover and remember so I can reflect on the greater part they become in my life.
  2. Their purpose, according to this verse, is two fold:
    1. Through them I can “become a partaker of the divine nature”- with the promises in God’s word I am actually receiving a part of the very nature of God, a part of God Himself.
    2. And  with that nature, I can “escape the corruption in the world caused by impure passions.”

How cool is that?! I meditate on the promises of God and He actually dwells in me SO THAT I don’t have to be corrupted by the evil things in this world, specifically “Impure passions.” Old Testament failures usually revolved around idolatry and immorality; New Testament failures seemed to be more focused on selfishness and pride; and today I think my world has managed to extract the worst of both eras and bombard me with all of the above. What’s a weak sinful human being, desiring to follow God, to do?

  1. Find the “exceeding great and precious promises” in God’s word
  2. Meditate on them and watch, as I fill my life with them, also see God filling my life
  3. Allow that God to now fill me so I can “escape” all that corruption BECAUSE I am finding the “exceeding great and precious promises!”

Have a great day remembering the old chorus, “Standing on the promises of God,”

Quote for the day: “If you are willing to hurt someone and cause harm because of your belief in the "truth" then it is not the truth you have but a distortion of it.”
