“Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”      Psalm 119:105

Home today from Texas where I have been meeting with my fellow chaplains from all the other Adventist colleges and universities around North America. It’s an amazing blessing to fellowship with each of them. We have a support system and a network of caring that helps all of us on our chaplain journeys.

I was reminded, after having said our good byes yesterday, that though they are a crucial part of my social and professional network, it is still God and His word that provide the MOST stable and consistent network in my life. I love them all dearly, but I still need a greater support system than even they can provide as I journey through life until we all get together again next year.

I have found, and continue to validate, my greatest source of encouragement, strength, focus, and yes even accountability, in God’s word. It IS, as my verse for today says, the lamp that leads my steps and the light that guides my path. GMU has been my spiritual discipline for more than 21 years now to retain that daily focus on Jesus through His word. I cannot stress enough the importance of a stable solid anchor in life as I face all that it throws at me. It IS my strength, my direction, my focus.

This year I am trying to focus on one verse every day. I memorize it (or renew it if I’ve already done that before) and I carry it on a card in my pocket when necessary to remind me of that verse all through the day. To learn it and reflect on it takes as little as 2 minutes a day! I think anyone can find 2 minutes in their day. If that’s hard then tape it to the shower wall and reflect on it during those minutes!! 2 minutes a day, and on December 31, if my discipline hangs in there I will have 365 verses of Scripture fixed in my mind as part of my anchor and my focal point for my journey with God. 2 minutes a day!!

Have a great day finding 2 minutes and seeing what a difference it makes,

Pastor Rich

PS        Service Challenge Day 27        Catch some extra winks

We are almost to break friends! Tonight do yourself a favor and get some extra sleep. Sleep can make the world of difference in how we function and interact with others in our daily lives. By getting the needed amount of sleep each night, we won't be the only ones that benefit.
