“He saves us, NOT because of any righteous thing we have done…”            Titus 3:5

One more special verse jumped out at me as I continue musing on Paul’s letter to his friend Titus. It’s a great reminder of how to keep the journey with Jesus in its right perspective.

God does NOT save me because of ANY righteous thing I have done. Sometimes I can get that confused and think that I can “earn” something with God because I make wise choices in life. Those wise choices are good things and they can keep me from a lot of junk in this world and consequences that I’ll have to deal with in this life. And good choices can help me see more clearly though life, and they don’t cloud my picture of God, but they CANNOT and DO NOT save me! The verse continues and concludes, He saved us, “because of HIS mercy.” Period. Full Stop!!

Thank you Jesus that I don’t have to try and earn my salvation but that you give it to me “because of your great mercy.”
