“Unto you O Lord, do I lift up my soul….”         Psalm 25:1,2

A song came to me the other day that doesn’t seem to want to leave. It was an old praise song that we sang back at Maplewood Academy when I was chaplain there- LOOONG ago! I have, however, changed the words a bit that don’t fit nicely into the cadence of the song, but they make it more of a confidence song/verse that a pleading/begging type song/verse:

“Unto thee O Lord (leader sings, participants repeat)

Do I lift up my soul (same as above)

Unto thee O Lord (same response)

Do I lift up my soul (do I lift up my soul)

O my God (respond)

I trust in thee (I trust in thee)

(all together)

Let me not be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph (clap) over me.”

I just changed the last line to:

“I will NOT be ashamed, and my enemies will NOT triumph over me”

It sounds good when I recite it as a verse I’ve learned, but I can’t make it fit into the music!

I realize that David did have a lot of enemies, I don’t (to my knowledge!) I would rather focus on the confidence that I can have when I lift up my soul to God and trust Him. I have found that with that focus I don’t have to be ashamed of Him or my belief in Him, and I don’t have to worry about the only real enemy that I know I have, and that’s the devil, EVER triumphing over me—as long as I am “lifting up my soul to Him, and trusting Him.”

Have a great day lifting and trusting, then knowing,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the day: “Nothing lives for itself. Rivers don’t drink their own water. Trees don’t eat their own fruits. The sun doesn’t shine for itself. A flower’s fragrance is not for itself. Living for each other is Nature’s rule. Let’s rise by lifting others up.”
