“Choose you today whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”            Joshua 24:15

There seems to be a pattern here! A few days ago I remember writing about the end of Moses’ life and how he plead with God’s people to “choose wisely” and choose the Lord. And that was on the way into the promised land.

Now the end of Joshua’s life is imminent. They have taken most of the promised land back and have watched miracle after miracle in the process. Now Joshua makes his last plea—“Choose today whom you will serve…” They respond with, “We will serve the Lord!”

Joshua says, “Are you sure?”

They said, “Yes!”

And then comes my ah-ha for the day—Joshua basically says, “Prove it!” (verses 21-23)

He has two criteria for that “proof”:

  1. “Throw away the foreign gods that are among you”
  2. “Yield your hearts to the Lord.”

What is it that I might be placing before God in my life that is hindering me from totally yielding my heart to Him? In prayer and quiet time with God I will search for that answer. Whatever it is, it’s got to go if I want to make sense out of this Christian journey and have more clarity in my desire to understand God’s will and purpose in my life. I want to respond to what He says so I can demonstrate to God that I too am choosing Him.

Have a great day looking carefully at, and responding accordingly to, what might be hindering you from choosing God,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the day:     “The devil doesn’t care if you go to church or read your Bible, as long as you don’t apply it to your life.”
