“And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Another great promise to hang on to (so I can “escape the corruption that is in the world”--- remember 2 Peter 1:4 from a couple days ago!?) My ah-ha this morning focused on one word in this verse—“Needs.” God, through Paul, does NOT promise me all my WANTS; He does, however, promise me all my NEEDS. And there is a great difference.

It reminded me of the often quoted and more often misapplied verse in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 6:33, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and ALL these things shall be yours as well.” So for me, the operative words in this verse are, “these things.” What things? In its context, as I look right before this famous verse, are listed three things, what I eat, drink and wear- food, water, and clothes. It’s not a blank check signed by a cosmic genie; if I “seek first His kingdom and righteousness,” I am not promised a new car, a better job, or an endless bank account. God says, “Seek Me and I will take care of your NEEDS,” – not wants! (though my God is so amazing that He even throws in a few wants as well so it seems!)

God will take care of me better than I can imagine in ways that He knows are best. I don’t have to worry or fret; I seek Him, He takes care of me- all my needs.

Have a great day discovering the peace of knowing you will be taken care of, IF….,

Pastor Rich
