“I know Whom I have believed…” 2 Timothy 1:12
So, there you have it. The list of 19 texts I found on my dad’s desk after he died. I categorized them into themes, I memorized them, and they have been my anchor ever since. I found it a great place to focus and find stability in Jesus. Let me conclude by sharing the whole list with you in case you are looking for a place to anchor your life in Jesus too.
Absolute Love of God
I John 3:1 “See what love the Father has given us that we should be called the children of God… and so we are!”
John 3:16,17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him HAS eternal life. For God did NOT send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
Psalm 103:10-13 “He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities…”
Psalm 34:15 “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous.”
1 Peter 5:7 “Cast ALL your cares and anxieties on Him for He cares for you.”
Absolute Forgiveness In Jesus
Isaiah 1:18 “Come let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive our sins AND to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Absolute Bottom Line Living
Micah 6:8 “He has shown you O man what is good, and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Absolute Focus on the Savior
Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Proverbs 3:5,6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He WILL direct your path.”
Absolute Victory in Jesus
Psalm 46:1, 10 “God is our refuge and help in time of trouble… so be still and know that He IS God.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 “There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man, and God is faithful and will NOT let you be tempted above which you are able, but will with the temptation provide a way of escape that you may be able to stand.”
Absolute Assurance in Christ
1 John 5:11-13 “And this IS the testimony, that God gave us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has eternal life, he who does not have the Son does not have life. I write this to you who believe so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.”
John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son of God HAS eternal life.”
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I WILL give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Isaiah 26:3,4 “You will keep him in perfect peace who mind is stayed on You because he trusts you. Trust in the Lord for the Lord, the Lord God IS the Rock eternal.”
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you… let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Job 19:25 “I KNOW that my Redeemer lives.”
And the last text on his list is for today and is one of my most favorite texts in the Bible:
2 Timothy 1:12 “I KNOW Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that HE IS ABLE to keep that which I have committed to Him against that day.”
That was dad’s assurance; that has become my assurance; those were even the last words spoken by Ellen White which apparently was her assurance as well.
I pray that will be your assurance too. Focus; be anchored in Him; trust Him and He WILL bring you through.
Have a great day in ABSOLUTE confidence in WHOM you believe,
Pastor Rich
The last thing my dad said to me before he died was in response to my question, “Everything ok with you and God?” And he said…
Quote for the day: “Of course.” Thanks dad.
