“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth.”           Ecclesiastes 12:1

Ok, so maybe “youth” doesn’t fit for maturing college students, so how about, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your young adulthood.” Or for our staff members, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your middle age.” Or for Buell and me, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your geriatric journey!” Whatever position life might be right now, I see one consistent message—“Remember your Creator.”

When I was “young” I had all my major life decisions ahead of me. Choices made at this point of life would impact the rest of life. The biggest choices were ahead- what will I choose for a career? Where will I live? How will I know if there is a life partner out there for me? How do I navigate into adulthood? What am I going to do with God as I move from my parents’ God to finding my own connection with Him? It was all ahead and none of my questions had absolute one way answers. They all needed wisdom greater than is within. I needed to “remember my Creator” as the One who knows what He’s doing and promises to guide me If I will only trust Him.

When I was “middle age,” things were settling in, sometimes too much so, and it was tempting to just put life on cruise control and let happen what happens. When it seemed like there might be nothing more to do that just do, I needed Someone to help me see purpose and meaning in life. That Someone was my Creator that I “remembered from my youth.” He gave life purpose and meaning.

And now that I am officially “over the hill,” I still turn to my Creator and remember the many ways He has been faithful and guided me through the ups and the downs, and is bringing me to the geriatric ward, sometimes with great contentment and peace, and sometimes kicking and screaming because I’m not ready to “give up” quite yet. I remember that He has led me and I believe He will keep leading me as I keep seeking His wisdom to know what’s next as He remains willing for me to be a part of His greater plan. I don’t know what that is yet, but I do remember “in Whom I have believed” and in Whom I will continue to believe.

So, no matter the place in life, I continue to learn that one of the wisest things I can do is “Remember now my Creator.” He’s my Creator and He’s my recreator whenever I need Him. He a very secure and consistent constant that gives me an anchor point and a firm foundation for all of life. I highly recommend Him whatever place you might be in life.

Have a great day remembering the One who is your greatest anchor through life,

Pastor Rich
