“He does not treat us as our sins deserve….”  Psalm 103:10

And it’s a good thing!! THIS is the blessed hope of the gospel—we don’t get what we deserve, Jesus got that! We get what HE deserves- eternal life! Pretty good deal I’d say; something that reminds me every day of all that I have to be thankful for.

David gives three illustrations of how true his opening line is.

  1. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for us.”
  2. “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us”
  3. “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who love Him.”

So, how high are the heavens above the earth? How far is it from east to west? How much compassion CAN a father have for his children? I can’t measure the heights of the heavens; east and west NEVER meet (as opposed to north and south which do! Keep going north long enough and you will start going south; go east as long as you wish and you will NEVER start going west! God new that!) and I was fortunate enough to see the compassion and care that my father had for me right up until his death. I am both wowed and blessed.

I never have “gotten what I deserved” from the negative perspective, and I have gotten more than I deserve from the positive perspective. And all I can do is say thank you!

Have a great day being thankful that you don’t get what you deserve, but you get a whole lot of what you don’t deserve when you love God,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the day: "I believe in God not because my parents told me, not because the church told me, but because I've experienced His goodness and mercy myself."
