“My peace I leave with you…”            John 14:27

It hard to leave the ones you love. I think Jesus felt the same way. When I would leave home returning to college my dad would always “secretly” slip a five dollar bill in my pocket. That was a BIG DEAL back then and I knew it meant a significant sacrifice on his part but I knew he loved me, was going to miss me when I was gone, and wanted to do what he could for my happiness.

When Jesus left His disciples and returned to heaven He left them something too. Better than a five dollar bill (my dad would agree!), Jesus said, “My peace I leave with you.” This whole chapter of John is an amazing compilation of “gifts” Jesus had for His disciples and for me. It starts with, “I may be leaving but don’t worry, I AM coming back! And when I do I’m taking you all with me this time.”

He promises that when He’s gone He’ll send me the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to be with me, and He promises that whatever I need that will bring glory to the Father, all I have to do is ask Him and He’ll take care of it.

“So, don’t be afraid while I’m gone; stay focused and keep on keeping on. I’ll still be with you, at least through My Spirit; I’ll take care of everything you need so you can keep focused on Me. And I AM coming back to get you. In the meantime follow the Father.” That’s my summary of John 14 and the hope by which I will live today.

Have a great day living and growing in John 14’s promises,

Pastor Rich
