Transferring courses to Union

*Union policy requires all students to order official, final transcripts to be sent to Union by all previous institutions attended even if no credits will be transferred. When ordering transcripts to be sent, please direct them to Union Adventist University (some services may list Union College in Lincoln, NE). If a email address is required, prospective students should send transcripts to enroll@uau.edu, current and returning students should send transcripts to transfer@uau.edu.

    If you cannot find that course you have taken in the database above request a pre-evaluation here.

    *Deposited and current students will be prioritized and official determinations are subject to final review once official transcripts are received.

  • What courses will be accepted at Union?

    All credits earned from regionally accredited colleges and universities will transfer to Union provided the following criteria is met:

    • An official transcript must be sent directly to Union by the institution the course was taken from.
    • Only courses with a final grade of C- or higher are eligible for transfer.
    • Vocational and technical courses are generally not transferable. i.e. nursing, automotive, medical assistant, etc.
    • Graduate level courses are not transferable
    • International transcripts must be sent to Union through WES.
    • Remedial and life experience courses are not transferable. i.e. MATH 017 or intercollegiate sports participation credit.

    Transfer of credits does not guarantee that courses taken will meet specific requirements at Union. Current students seeking to transfer coursework from other institutions are responsible for confirming equivalencies prior to enrollment. Courses that do not meet requirements for degree/major/general education at Union may be brought in as batched general electives.

    *It is Union Adventist University policy to require official and final transcripts from all other institutions a student has attended, even if credits are not transferable to Union Adventist University. This applies to first time, transfer, current and returning students.

  • Alternative Credits

    Credit by Examination - ACE, AP, CLEP, & Challenge Examinations

    Several types of examinations are available for a student to demonstrate knowledge sufficient for academic credit, which may not exceed credit granted for similar classes offered by the university.

    Credit by examination is not given if a student ever enrolled in the course, even if it was not completed, or if the student has taken a more advanced course in the same subject with or without credit. Exams may be taken only once.

    CR/NC will be recorded in lieu of a letter grade and will not count towards GPA. Applications for CLEP and Proficiency Examinations are available in the Records office.

    • American Council on Education (ACE) - Recommended Credit
      • Joint Services Transcripts are the only form of ACE credit that will be accepted.
    • Advanced Placement (AP)
      • Advanced Placement (AP) credit is granted to students who pass certain College Board AP Examinations with a score of 3 or higher. Language and Composition substitutes for Writing for General Audiences, while Literature and Composition substitutes for literature. However, no AP course may substitute for Writing for Scholarly Audiences. For more information about credits granted for certain AP tests, please visit uau.edu/transfer/transfer-credit-equivalency and search for “The College Board AP/CLEP”.
    • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
      • Union Adventist University grants credit for CLEP subject examinations as recommended by the Commission on Educational Credit of the American Council on Education. Applications for CLEP exams are available in the Records office. Once a student is approved to take a CLEP exam, he/she may visit the following website to find a local testing center: clep.collegeboard.org/test-center-search. A recording fee is charged for credits earned on CLEP exams (see fees). For more information about credits granted for certain CLEP tests, please visit uau.edu/transfer/transfer-credit-equivalency and search for “The College Board AP/CLEP”.
    • Credit by CLEP carries the following stipulations:
      • not available after a student has completed 56 hours of college credit;
      • not available for Writing for General Audiences or Writing for Scholarly Audiences;
      • not granted for the general tests in Humanities, College Mathematics, Natural Sciences, or Social Sciences and History; and
      • will not necessarily satisfy requirements for a major or minor. The student seeking to use CLEP credit for a major or minor should obtain program approval before taking the test.
    • Challenge Examinations
      • Proficiency examinations may be arranged for some courses. Students who want to take an exam should contact the program director. A fee will be charged for the exam preparation and credit registration. A course already taken cannot be replaced by a proficiency examination.
