Union employee family,
In the last few days, the Lancaster County Health Department has identified Union College employees to be a part of the phase 1 rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. But they need to know how many of you want to receive the vaccine, so please respond as soon as possible.
Fill out this survey by December 23 so they know how many vaccines to reserve for us.
(You have to be logged into your Union Google account in your browser to access the form.)
COVID-19 vaccine questions
A live version of this Q and A is available here.
Q: When will Union College employees potentially receive the vaccine?
A: The county health department does not know, but they have indicated it may be anywhere from a few days to several weeks from now. Regardless of when the vaccine is available to us, they would like for us to be prepared.
Q: Will all employees be eligible to receive the vaccine or only certain categories of employees?
A: The county health department is working to establish a prioritized list and criteria specific to higher education.
Q: If I choose not to get the vaccine during this early phase of distribution, can I get it later?
A: The State of Nebraska has developed a plan of phases to administer the vaccine. If you choose not to receive the vaccine during this phase, your age, occupation, health and risk factors will determine when you have the next opportunity.
Q: When will students be able to receive the vaccine?
A: Lancaster County has created a plan to administer this vaccine in phases. Students living in communal spaces will have the opportunity for the vaccine in phase 1 C, along with individuals 65 or older and other vulnerable populations.
Q: Which specific company’s vaccine will Union receive?
A: At this point in time, the Pfizer vaccine has been FDA approved and will be available. The Moderna vaccine is currently under review but expected to be approved in the next few days. Approval of the Moderna vaccine will make vaccinations much more readily available and will likely speed up the delivery process. By the time we can receive the vaccinations, it could be either of the two approved vaccines.
Q: Where can I find more information about the safety and efficacy of these vaccines?
A: For more information please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/index.html
Q: Where will the vaccines be administered?
A: We are working with the county health department on this and will update when we know more.
Q: If I elect to receive the vaccine, how do I make arrangements to receive it?
A: You will be contacted by Union College once the vaccine is available. More details will be shared once they are known.
Q: What are the phases of the Nebraska Vaccination Plan?
You can also find this information with updated Q and A under the COVID-19 link on the employee website (ucollege.edu/employees).
We will be sending out more information about plans for the Spring 2021 semester early next week. I hope you have a great weekend and a blessed Sabbath.
Blessings,
