Campus family,
As we continue to watch the potential threat of the COVID-19 illness, we have decided to suspend all college-sponsored overseas trips for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year—including the Global Health Nursing spring break trip to Honduras. Students will be given the opportunity for a supplemental learning experience to complete their coursework for the class.
Based on CDC recommendations for colleges and the example of many of our peer institutions, we believe it is safer for our students and employees not to travel overseas. Our task force will continue to monitor the global situation before we make any decision on our summer study tours.
We are not recalling ACA, student missionaries and IRR students at this time. However, we are connecting with them to make sure each student has the right information and the option to return to the United States immediately if they choose.
Please continue to follow these recommendations for minimizing the spread of any illness.
-
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water aren’t available.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
-
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
-
Stay home when sick.
-
Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue or if no tissue is available, sneeze into the elbow.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
If you feel sick, pay attention to your symptoms. COVID-19 symptoms are very similar to those of the flu or common cold and can be very light or more severe:
- Fever
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing
If you experience these systems, please do not go to class or work and contact the Campus Health Office immediately at 402.486.2554. While you may not have the coronavirus and COVID-19 is unlikely to be dangerous to you, we want to do our part to stop the spread of the illness. The Campus Health Office staff will give you further instructions.
I invite you to continue to pray for wisdom for our campus and community as we all work towards minimizing the impact of this illness—as well as for all those who have been impacted by the disease.
We will continue to closely watch the situation and communicate any other changes to programs, trips or daily operations as needed.
God bless,
Vinita Sauder
