Campus family
We’ve almost made it! Finals are upon us and I know each of you will do your best and finish out this crazy semester on a high note. I’m praying for all of you.
I have a couple of updates to share this week as we wrap up the school year.
Union will be open in the fall
Union College plans to reopen for on-campus classes this fall. Union is best experienced in person and we look forward to having you back on our campus to take advantage of the great mentoring and supportive community here.
Although we will be open, the campus may feel a little different in August. We will be following safe and healthy practices as recommended by our local health department, such as sanitizing surfaces and buildings more often and implementing other protocols to keep us all healthy. Ultimately, the safety of our students and employees is our top priority, so we will have contingencies in place to continue to deal with the unprecedented environment of the pandemic.
The COVID-19 Taskforce is working on plans to gradually reopen campus this summer to allow students to return to work on-campus jobs and be fully operational in August. We’ll release more details about how this will work in June. In the meantime, if you are interested in returning to an on-campus job or finding a new one later this summer, please contact the department supervisor to see what options are available.
The financial team is currently reworking the summer bonus program to allow more levels of bonuses for those who won’t be able to work at Union the entire summer.
Because we are still in Open Limited status, please do not return to campus right now—either to collect your belongings from the residence hall or for a job. Before entering the residence halls or accessing other campus buildings you’ll need to receive clearance from Dean Stocks. Contact her at stacy.stocks@ucollege.edu
Celebrating graduates on May 10
While we are looking to the future to hold an in-person graduation ceremony for our December 2019, May 2020, and August 2020 graduates, we also want to recognize their hard work on the original graduation day. So join us to celebrate the Union College Class of 2020 on May 10 at 11:00 a.m. on Union’s Youtube channel.
The event will feature a keynote address by Dr. Ben Carson, noted brain surgeon and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Even though the graduates won’t hear your applause, you can still celebrate them with your comments on the live chat during the event.
Don’t forget to register
Registration is now open for summer and fall. Union is offering more than 50 online summer classes at half price—synchronous and asynchronous courses taught by Union professors and a wide variety from our consortium, Acadeum. Learn more about summer classes at ugroups.ucollege.edu/online. Register for fall classes on Portal.
I’m proud of each student and employee for the way you all have pulled through the school year. We are all looking forward to August when we can see you again. I hope you have a great summer and are able to recharge from the extra stress of this spring.
Blessings to you,
Vinita Sauder
President, Union College
