Campus family,
As we continue to monitor the spread of the COVID-19 around the world, I want to give you an update about Union College’s plans for spring break and the rest of the school year.
Based on the example of peer institutions and CDC recommendations, Union has decided not to cancel any domestic trips at this time. The choir trip to California and the golf team trip to Florida will be proceeding as planned.
Spring break travel guidelines
Over the next few days, many of you will be departing for spring break. Please be mindful of a few things as you depart campus:
- Take your books and other course materials with you. We don’t anticipate closing campus, but we are preparing for the possibility. If things change, and students are unable to return to campus, then we will want to be able to transition classes online to complete the semester.
- We recommend that you do not travel internationally.
- If you choose to travel to a country for which the CDC has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice (China, Iran, Italy or South Korea), you will be required to self-quarantine at home for 14 days.
- If you become sick during spring break, stay home until you have fully recovered. If you do become sick, please notify Campus Health and your professors.
International travel
As I mentioned in a previous message, we have canceled international trips for the rest of the school year. This primarily impacts the Global Health Nursing trip scheduled for spring break. We have not made a final decision on summer trips yet—including the C.S. Lewis Study Tour to England, the PA mission trip to Peru and the Math and Science mission trip to the Philippines. We will make the final decision on those trips in a few weeks, but I have told the planners to be prepared if these trips are canceled.
The rest of the school year
Our COVID-19 taskforce is keeping a close eye on the global situation and is working with local health officials to make sure we do our part to protect our campus and our community. At this time, we do not plan to cancel any campus events this school year. However, the situation is constantly changing, and we will adjust plans accordingly.
Please remember to wash your hands often, avoid contact with sick people and stay home if you are sick. If you have questions or feel sick, please contact the Campus Health Office at campushealthnurse@ucollege.edu or call 402-486-2554.
Enjoy your spring break and keep all of us in your prayers.
