Union family,
Thank you to everyone for participating in our campus-wide COVID screening last week. The testing turned up zero additional COVID-19 cases on our campus! It takes all of us to keep Union safe, and I’m proud of all our students and faculty for weathering the tough year and following the safety protocols on campus.
Right now, we have a very low case count and the testing data demonstrates we can begin to relax some of the protocols that have been put in place to limit the spread of COVID this school year.
- No more health checks—Starting tomorrow, the health check stations will be closed and students, employees and visitors will no longer be required to get a sticker when entering a campus building.
- Doors unlocked—You’ve probably already noticed that many buildings are now unlocked during regular business hours.
- Food at events—Groups will be allowed to serve food at outdoor events. You won’t be limited to prepackaged food anymore, but all food will need to be served by a designated server with mask and gloves. Some indoor events may also be allowed to serve food. All events still need to go through the same approval process at this time.
- Directional signage—You will likely see directional signs and markers disappear from around campus. While we should still maintain appropriate physical distance, we don’t believe it is still necessary to manage foot traffic flow around campus.
Even though we as a campus can celebrate the nice weather and the shrinking number of COVID cases, we are not out of danger from the pandemic yet. So we ask that you continue to follow COVID safety practices that have kept us safe so far:
- Wear your facemask when with other people. This is especially important when you are in buildings.
- If you feel sick or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, stay away from others. If you experience COVID symptoms, please stay in your room or at home and contact the Campus Health Nurse hotline immediately at 402.937.0052 or email campushealthnurse@ucollege.edu. A nurse will answer between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (or after 8 a.m. the next day if you call after hours).
Thank you again for your support in keeping our Union community a great place to learn and grow. I pray for your success as we finish up the last few weeks of classes.
God bless,
Frankie Rose and the COVID team
