Campus family,
I have some new updates to announce related to Union’s response to COVID-19.
If you have questions, you can join Dr. Frankie Rose tonight for a special Facebook Live Q&A session on Union’s Facebook page at 9:00 p.m.
Transitioning to online classes and extended spring break
Following the example of our peer colleges in the area and the recommendations of the county health department, campus leadership has decided to transition to an online model for classes following an extended two-week spring break. The break will begin as scheduled on March 16 and classes will now resume on March 30.
The college offices, residence halls, and cafeteria will remain open throughout spring break and the rest of the semester. Students are welcome to live and study in the residence halls or study at home.
Certain programs such as nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy assistant, and education may require students to return to campus to complete practicum and clinical requirements. Look for more information from your academic programs about successfully completing your semester requirements.
Faculty members will spend the extended spring break planning for the transition as appropriate for each class. Please be patient with your professors. They will be in touch with you.
We intend to keep all campus departments and support services open on campus—including the library, computer labs, Teaching Learning Center and tutoring.
Students who remain on campus will be asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines and standard preventative practices that will be communicated in the near future.
Because the college will still be open and operating during and following spring break, we will not be offering any prorated refunds for tuition, room or board should any students choose to stay at home and study from a distance.
Spring break reminders
Just some reminders as you head out (or stay here) for spring break:
- We recommend you don’t travel internationally. If you choose to travel to a country for which the CDC has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice (see the CDC travel health notices site), you will be required to self-quarantine at home for 14 days.
- If you get sick over spring break, please stay home until you have completely recovered. Be sure to notify your professors and Campus Health at campushealth@ucollege.edu
- If you are on campus and you get sick, please stay in your room and contact Campus Health (campushealthnurse@ucollege.edu or 402.486.2554) right away. They will give you further instructions.
Homecoming weekend postponed
Out of care and concern for Union College alumni and in light of current information related to COVID-19, the Advancement Office has decided to postpone the Union ReUnion 2020 homecoming weekend to next year—April 1-4, 2021.
