Campus family,
I need to start with an apology. When we had our first COVID case on campus a couple of weeks ago, I promised we would publish a daily report of cases on campus. We had some changes in our reporting system last week and did not keep the public chart updated.
I’m happy to report the chart is working again and will be updated every morning with the latest information about students and employees in quarantine or isolation. Check it out at ucollege.edu/COVID-19
Do we have an outbreak at Union?
No! We currently only have three confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Union. We also have 29 people in quarantine right now who had close contact with one of these confirmed cases.
Even though Lancaster County is experiencing significant COVID-19 spread right now, we are blessed at Union. The number of Unionites in quarantine and isolation are well within our ability to manage and continue to run in-person classes.
Should I wear a mask to avoid close contact with a COVID-19 case?
Yes! Lancaster County considers a “close contact” as 15 minutes of exposure within six feet to a confirmed COVID-19 case where one or both people were not wearing masks. This can be outdoors or indoors and face shields do not count.
Social interaction is very important—and that is one of the reasons we have prioritized in-person learning this fall. So please spend time together. But do it safely whether you’re on or off campus. Wear a mask and encourage those around you to wear one as well. All involved must be wearing a mask to avoid being considered a close contact.
Thanks for working together to ensure we all stay healthy and Union can remain open for in-person classes for the rest of the school year.
Questions?
If you have more questions about our current COVID situation, please join Dr. Frankie Rose for a 30 minute Zoom meeting today (September 14) at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Rose is a member of our COVID planning and implementation team and has been involved in Union’s contact tracing.
