Campus family,
Thank you to each one of you who participated in our mandatory testing over the past couple of weeks. With your help, we were able to isolate our relatively few COVID cases quickly, and now we can resume some of the community-building activities that help make Union special.
Union Market dining hall—The dining hall will reopen today (Thursday). You’ll be welcome to eat your meals in the dining hall, but only four to a table. Even though COVID is not currently spreading rapidly on our campus, we need to minimize unmasked time together indoors to keep it that way.
SA activities—SA already had an online activity planned for this Saturday night, but after that in-person activities will resume. We won’t be serving food just yet, but we can still have fun together. The event size will be governed by the county guidelines for the room size.
Varsity athletics—Our athletic teams are resuming practices while COVID testing weekly and wearing masks at all times during practice. There are no guarantees yet, but we are hopeful we can tip off the basketball season at the beginning of February.
Meetings (including employee meetings)—Even though it’s still not a bad idea to use Zoom when possible, general meetings may resume on campus. This includes non-academic student meetings, employee meetings, etc. All meetings must follow the same protocols that apply to classes:
- Do not meet longer than 90 minutes.
- Meet in an area that has space and good ventilation. A small office space is not ideal.
- Follow all room capacity and physical distancing rules.
- No food may be served or consumed at or during a meeting.
God bless,
COVID team
