Subject: It's March 31; Good Morning Union

My month-long journey through the psalms comes to an end with just one song. It’s the longest psalm, as in 176 verse long, so it gets its own day in my system!! I saved the best til last!

“O how I love Your law; I meditate on it all day long.”          Psalm 119:97

Psalm 119- another acrostic song of poetry, this time not by verse but by section. If you want to learn the Hebrew alphabet it’s right there in this psalm! Each stanza of this long song starts with a Hebrew letter, in order! And there is for me as I read this song, one theme that continually brings me back to my connection with my God. It’s sort of like a love letter to God about all the things David likes about what has happened to his life because he has loved and connected, in a deep and meaningful relationship, with His God. That theme-- the law of God! 30 times he says the law is “sweet and rich.” Here are some of the best quotes from this song:

“Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who are walking according to the law of the Lord.”

“Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their hearts.”

“How can a young person keep his ways pure? By meditating on Your Word.”

“I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.”

“I rejoice in your statutes, I meditate on your precepts, I delight in Your decrees, I will not neglect Your word.”

And here’s a good one that helps me understand the need for discipline and even challenges in my life:

“It was good for me to be afflicted so I could learn the value of following your word.”

Loving God’s law seems to equate with happiness, contentment, and stability:

“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

“Great peace have they who love Your law; nothing can make them stumble.”

God’s word is His “love letter” to me. Psalm 119 in my response to Him. Thank you God, for loving me enough to care and guide me. My response is to love You back by listening to and following Your counsel and wisdom.

Have a great day responding to His love letter to you too,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the day:      “If we don’t teach our children to follow God, the world will teach them how not to.”
