Union student family,
I want to share some new developments and remind you of a few things so that you will be prepared for a great school year when you return.
Daily health checks
Similar to other campuses, we’ve instituted what is called a “daily health check.” All employees, students and visitors are now required to stop at a health check station prior to or immediately upon entering any Union College building. You’ll only have to get checked once per day and will receive a sticker showing you have been screened. These daily checks are a vital part of ensuring that our campus stays open for in-person classes this semester. It is important that everyone participate to keep all of us safe.
The screening consists of a body temperature check using a touchless, infrared thermometer and a review of symptoms associated with COVID-19 to make sure you aren’t currently experiencing any. You will also be asked to scan the QR code with your uGroups app on your phone. That way if you lose your sticker, you can go to the Student Life Office for a replacement. Or you can get re-checked.
To speed up the daily health check process, please have the uGroups app installed on your phone. Just search for the “Union College uGroups” app on the iTunes or Google Play store. Once you have installed and opened the app:
- Click the “More” tab at the bottom right of your screen.
- Click the QR Code Scanner on the menu.
- Point your camera at the large QR code at the Health Check Station and you will automatically be checked in.
If you don’t have a smartphone, there will be a paper check-in process each time you do the screening.
Watch for signs listing all the Daily Health Check locations when you return to campus, or check out the list at ucollege.edu/covid-19
Make an appointment to move in (and with other departments)
If you are planning to move into the residence hall, you must reserve a three-hour time block to move in. Only two guests will be allowed into the residence hall per student during the move in process. We are doing our best to keep your living space safe, and we believe limiting the number of people in a building at one time is the best way to protect you. Health checks will be required before entering the residence halls and everyone must wear a mask unless you are in your own room. You may reserve a slot between August 2 and August 9 (except for Saturday).
Reserve your time here.
If you need to visit other departments in order to finish your registration checklist, you must make an appointment using our online booking system. Please visit ucollege.edu/registration2020 to see the latest updates about registration and make appointments.
Order your books now and get free shipping!
Once you've registered for classes, you can order books anytime using our online bookstore. We don't sell books on campus, so be sure to order right away so you have your books when classes start.
Just log into Portal, click the "Buy Books" button, and then the link for the fall term. You'll be able to see all the book options for your classes and order what makes the most sense for you.
Plus, order by August 2 to get free shipping! You can have your books shipped directly to Union College at 3800 S 48th Street, Lincoln, NE 68506.
Check out this step-by-step video tutorial for making your book order.
Remember your masks
Everyone on the Union College campus is required to wear a facemask covering the mouth and nose while in any indoor public area, in offices when more than one person is present, and outdoors when six feet of physical distancing isn't possible. There are a few exceptions, and if you need accommodation for physical or mental health reasons, please contact Campus Health at campushealthnurse@ucollege.edu
Please bring several masks so that you can have one with you all the time.
Arrive on campus photo ready
Remember, you’ll need to take a new photo as a part of the registration process. This year, in order to keep everyone properly distanced, the photo will be taken in the President’s Dining Room from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday and on Sunday, August 9. Enter from the south door facing the College View Church. This photo will be used in the online Peanut Gallery, uGroups, the yearbook (unless you’re a senior) and many other places around campus. So look your best!
Each one of you are in my prayers as you prepare for the school year. Thank you for all you do to make this a wonderful learning community.
Blessings,
Vinita Sauder
President, Union College
