Union family,
Today marks one year since COVID changed Union College. March 12, 2020, was an epic and solemn day when we decided to close our campus and move all classes online.
We have done well as a campus in responding to COVID and keeping our campus safe this school year. Thank you for your patience, grace, and resilience—and for demonstrating that you value everyone’s health and safety. Now we can celebrate that we only have six weeks left in the school year!
We can’t claim complete victory over the coronavirus just yet, though. We know COVID variants are circulating in Lincoln and we suspect they may be on our campus as well.
My goal is to relax some COVID protocols and move forward with plans for in-person graduation. So we are following the health department recommendation to do one last COVID test for everyone on campus following the long weekend break. We need a clear picture of COVID on our campus to help us make the best decisions for the rest of the semester.
Since testing is inconvenient, I’m going to make this last mandatory test worthwhile for you. Each person who takes a COVID test at the Union testing center March 17-19 will receive a $5 gift card to the Mill.
Mandatory testing instructions
All students and employees who have not received at least one vaccination shot or tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days must take a COVID test March 15-20. Union will open an expanded on-campus testing center in Woods Auditorium March 17-19. You are also welcome to test at any TestNebraska location.
Woods Auditorium testing hours
- Wednesday, March 17—12:00 - 6:00 p.m.
- Thursday, March 18—12:00 - 6:00 p.m.
- Friday, March 19—12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Note: Fill out this form before you arrive to get your QR code and you’ll be in and out in five minutes.
We do not get your test results automatically, so you must upload your test results hyperlink and access code along with a screenshot of your test results. If you have been vaccinated or tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days, you must submit proof of vaccination including name and vaccination date—or your positive test result. Those who already submitted vaccination documents earlier this semester do not need to upload them again.

If you need an exemption from testing for medical reasons, students should contact Tammy Adams at campushealthnurse@ucollege.edu and employees should contact Lisa Forbes at lisa.r.forbes@ucollege.edu
Mask wearing?
Recently the CDC announced that people who are fully vaccinated can safely gather in small groups without masks. This is great news, but 70 percent or more of our campus population is not vaccinated. So even if you have been vaccinated, please continue to wear your mask in public areas of campus.
You have done a great job keeping our COVID cases manageable throughout the school year—and thank you for helping us take one more step to finish strong!
Blessings to you,
Vinita Sauder
President, Union College
